3 Strategies For Getting A Good Deal At The Dealership

by Alex Hale

If you want to get a new car, you need to understand the art of getting a good deal. Don't go in and expect to pay the sticker price for a vehicle. You are going to need to negotiate with the car dealer in order to get the best deal.

Know When to Go Shopping for A Car

Part of getting a good deal on a car is about knowing when to go shopping for a car. Some of the best times to go shopping for a car are when the sales people are looking for sales.

At many car dealerships, the sales force gets bonuses at certain times of the year. Popular times of the year for car sales people to get a bonus is at the end of each month, the end of each quarter, or at the end of each year.

If you go to a dealership at the end of the month, quarter, or year, you stand a better chance of getting a good deal on a vehicle because of the motivation of the car salesman.

Know The Value of the Car You Want

Next, you need to know the value of the car that you want to purchase. You need to know how the car is priced at other dealerships, as well as how the car is priced with private sellers. Knowing how the car is priced will allow you to know what is a good deal and a fair price for the car that you are interested in.

You are going to be able to negotiate the price when you know the value of the car that you want to buy. You will know the top price that you will accept, which will help you know when to accept an offer.

Know Other Discounts that You Can Get

Find out if there are other discounts that you qualify for. Many times, people qualify for other discounts that they don't even realize that they qualify for. For example, you may get a discount for being an alumni of a certain school. You may get a discount for military service. You may also get a discount for membership in certain organizations, such as a credit union or professional organization.

Know Your Trade-In Value

If you have a vehicle that you want to trade in, you need to make sure that you actual know what your trade-in value actually is. Just like you should know the value of the car that you want to purchase, you should also know the value of your car that you want to trade in. Find what your vehicle is selling for from dealerships and private parties, and determine what is the lowest figure you will accept for a trade-in value. If you don't get that value, be willing to walk away from the deal.
